PLASTER MOLD MAKING & SLIPCASTING WORKSHOP

2 day Plaster mold making and slipcasting workshop for making simple ceramic shapes using one part molds given by Regina Rózsa

Regina Rózsa

Regina has earned a master degree in product design, specialized in ceramics at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest. Both by studies and through work she has gained a lot of experience in the field of moldmaking and multiplying techniques. Regina has been working at Studio Pansa for more than two years now and knows the studio and its processes inside out.

After booking this class you will receive a confirmation e-mail, extra info about what to bring and an invoice for your purchase.

(See Regina's instagram here).

In this course you will learn to make a one part plaster mold of a simple shape and how to cast using slib.

With the help of plaster molds you can identically reproduce an object, although ceramic molds are not only there to reproduce forms and shapes over and over again. Molds are also usable to create individual forms and open up many new avenues in your creative process.

This course can also be interesting for those of you who want to expand on their ceramic practice using other techniques than handbuilding/wheel throwing and is a nice way to get to know the basics of working with plaster.

We will focus on subjects like:

  • Advantages and application of ceramic molds

  • Shape-study

  • Identify undercuts, seamlines, keys

  • Build up of your own simple one part mold

What to bring?

Bring an item to class of up to max. 15 cm high. Try to bring a simple object that has a smooth but hard surface and is able to come loose from the mold easily (shape wise). If you bring something that you can not use for a single part mold, Regina will explain to you why and will provide you with a different shape to make.

Class curriculum

We will start with a theoretical part in which Regina gives you an introduction to the technique and discusses all the details about how to build up a one part mold.
After this, the class will dive into the plaster and start making single part molds using their shapes and at the end of the workshop you are able to slipcast your own sigle part mold.

After booking this class you will receive a confirmation e-mail, extra info about what to bring and an invoice for your purchase.
