Glazing and decorative techniques

Do you want to learn to glaze, or get better at glazing? Would you like your pieces to come out of the kiln prettier and more interesting? Then join our glazing workshop! We will teach you the proper techniques, how to avoid beginner mistakes and how to approach the materials.

For this workshop it is best if you have bisqueware or leather-hard work in progress.

In this class we will mainly focus on glazing your bisque fired objects, but there are some different techniques we can help you with. Examples:

- Other decoration technics to add on your bisqueware; using underglaze before adding your glaze, using oxides on top of your glaze.
- Engobes on greenware; adding colored slip to your not yet fired ceramic piece and using carving methods to create a pattern or illustration.
- We can also explain more to you about using bodystains to mix color into your clay, slip or glaze.

We recommend you to work with Pansa’s in-house clay, glazes, oxides and engobes. You are allowed to bring in your own bisqueware, pre-mixed glazes, slips or stains, but please get in touch with us before the class if this is the case, to check if these are ok to use.

Extra notes:
Fired work will be added to your firing allowance as a member. Excess firing will be charged €2,- per liter. For new students or non members firing is charged separately €3,- per liter. You are allowed to fire up to 6 liters, maximum. You can pick up your work about 3 weeks after the workshop.
